Have you ever heard of Turkish Van cats? I hadn’t until we bought two beautiful Turkish Van cats from my sister’s mother-in-law, Jane. Khali (pronounced Kay-lee) and Saffi (an exceptionally pretty cat with unusual eyes).
My brother-in-law chose Khali for us because of his free-spirit and adventurous personality. It was love at first sight. He is beautiful, loyal and affectionate, and definitely not your average house cat!
He loves water and will quite happily take a bath. He also drinks from the tap, if he can persuade someone to cup water into their hands for him!. Both cats enjoy company but Khali takes it to a new level. He greets us loudly every morning, is friendly with all the neighbours and a reqular at the pub. The locals know his routine and have a stool ready for him, where he sits until he is ready to move on!
Saffi is Khali’s neice and the daughter of an Imperial Grand Champion, no less. With such enviable pedigree, it is no wonder that she is particular about what she eats. Her favourite things (apart from sleep) are king prawns, freshly grilled chicken, tuna and cream (when she is allowed). Nothing keeps Saffi from her food but she flatly refuses anything that doesn’t meet her high standards!
Like all well bred young ladies, she has a daily brush to keep her fur silky smooth and is fastidious about her toilet habits. Belonging to a breed that originates from Turkey, Saffi refuses to take her business outside when it’s cold or raining and demands an indoor litter tray and staff to clean up after her!
