Inspiration from Ralph Steadman

Christmas Card – 2019

Each Christmas I make a card to send to family and friends. This year, I moved away from the theme of cats and opted for a bird. The brilliant cartoonist, Ralph Steadman inspired this year’s offering. He often begins his work with ink splats so, I decided to do the same. I thought my ink splat looked like a bird’s neck so, I draw in the rest of the bird to complete the drawing. When I was looking for ideas for this year’s card, I rediscovered the drawing. I decided, it would make a fun, quirky Christmas card if I added a santa hat! Why don’t you try something similar with the kids or have a go yourself? Splatter some paint or ink on a piece of paper with a large brush or pen and then take your inspiration from the marks that you make to finish the drawing.
